Man Lifting The Couch — Removalist in Brisbane, QLD

Moving can be a big job, especially if you’re worried about getting your furniture from here to there. That’s why furniture removals are best left to the experts here at Campbelltown Removals and Storage – especially if you have antiques or fine, quality furniture. A professional has all the training and equipment needed to help you move house. However, there are a few things that need to be done to get your furniture ready for the big day. Here’s what we can help you with.

Take an Inventory

Before you start taking any furniture out of your house, take stock of what you have. This allows you to make sure it’s all there when you arrive in your new home and lets you decide where you want it all to go when it arrives. You can write this down, room by room, so that nothing gets missed or lost. Check out our moving dos & donts.

Wrap it Up

One of the best ways to protect your furniture, both wood and upholstery, is to wrap it up so that it’s not banged up or snagged while it’s moved. Wrap it well in plastic, which creates a safe barrier to your fabrics and woods and stills allows you to see what’s inside. We also wrap items in removal blankets, which adds another layer of protection so that nothing is damaged or broken during your move.

Wrapping your furniture makes it easier to move, but also protects it from dings and bumps while it’s being loaded and transported. We are equipped to do this job for you, but you are certainly welcome to do so yourself if you have the materials and would like to get it done before we arrive on moving day.

Measure Everything

Before you start disassembling and packing your furniture, measure it all. This makes it easy to determine where it’s going to go in your new property and allows us to figure out which doorways to move it through so it fits without damaging the furniture itself or the walls. Write down your measurements and keep them somewhere handy so you can refer to them as needed.

Disassemble if Needed

Some pieces of furniture are too large to move through standard doorways and might not fit through windows. These items will need to be taken apart and safely wrapped and packed for the move. Keep the hardware with the piece and make sure you have directions for putting it back together when you get to your new house. Keep all of the pieces together too so that it’s not a guessing game as to what goes with what.

Use the Right Tools

If you need to disassemble your furniture, we can help, but you are also welcome to do it yourself. Just be sure you have the proper tools for doing the job right. That way you don’t have to worry about any of your items being damaged during the move. Bag and store the hardware for each item in a safe place so you have everything ready to put the furniture back together when you arrive in your new home. We suggest taping the bags to the underside of the furniture so that it’s where you can find it easily

Pack with Care

As your furniture is loaded onto the removals truck, the biggest and heaviest items should go in first, followed by the smaller and lighter ones. This ensures that there’s room for everything and nothing is damaged during the move. If you need to store your furniture, we can help you with that, keeping it safe and secure until delivery day. If you opt for storage, be sure you only include items you won’t need until they are delivered and keep an inventory of what goes into storage so you can be sure it’s all there when it arrives.

When you’re preparing your furniture for removal, you can place cushions, pillows and other removable parts in boxes or large bags. This protects them and makes it easier and less awkward to move the piece of furniture itself. Make sure you label everything so you know what goes with what when you arrive in your new home. That makes it easier to deliver the furniture to the right room without having to move it again.
